About the Author

Richard Collins has spent his life in aviation, logging over 17,000 flight hours in almost every type of aircraft, including the Concorde, and writing about it in over 700 articles and 11 books for pilots. He was associated with Flying magazine for 20 years, as editor and then editor-in-chief, and moved to AOPA Pilot in 1988 as publisher and editor-in-chief. His editorials and columns now appear, once again, in Flying magazine. Collins has served on many government advisory committees, has won numerous aviation awards, and continues to do extensive research on aviation safety.
