Jerry Ahern is a science fiction and action author best known for his post-apocalyptic survivalist series The Survivalist. These pulp novels have sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. He also authored the gut-wrenching, action packed series, “They Call Me the Mercenary” under the pseudonym Axel Kilgore. Along with his wife, Sharon, he is co-author of over eighty internationally-published novels.
[Editor's Note: The following is a combined review with ESCAPE.]--Doctor Holden and his Patriots continue to battle the federal government and the gangs of the Front for the Liberation of North America (FLNA) in these two installments of The Defender series. DECISION TIME depicts the deadly race for mayor of Metro. In episode five (not reviewed here) Holden is captured, and tortured, by the FLNA. Episode six, ESCAPE, relates his escape from captivity and the terrible revenge he exacts in the process. Alan Zimmerman, who has also read numbers one and two in this series, gives a good performance. These works have a lot of action, and Zimmerman's baritone voice has a staccato rhythm that he uses to good effect. He reads both dialogue and narration with understated energy and controlled enthusiasm. Ahern has a niche in the subgenre of survivalist stories, and these performances should satisfy his fans.
