From School Library Journal:
Grade 3-5-- In a battle of yellow journalism to rival any check-out line tabloid , 12-year-old arch rivals Claire and Shirley dedicate their summer and their respective newspapers to smearing each other's name and, hopefully, running the other out of town. The war climaxes when an outraged Shirley drags Claire to court. The judge, Claire's father, finds them both guilty and throws them in jail--in the same cell. They are sentenced to serve time until they apologize to each other. It looks like they may grow old in the slammer until they begin to realize they are more alike than they ever believed possible and that their war of words hasn't accomplished anything except to hurt each others' feelings. A light, entertaining story, just right for a summer day, which teaches a good lesson without preaching. --Nancy P. Reeder, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, Columbia, SC
