"Walt and Leigh Richmond's _Challenge the Hellmaker_ (1976) was originally a two-part serial in _Analog_ in 1963 under the title, "Where I Wasn't Going" with a spectacular cover by John Schoenherr of the space station in the story. Tilt the cover one way and the space station seemed to be floating placidly in space. Tilt it another way and it looks like a race car wheel roaring down at you. I was amused to see this cover reproduced in an Agatha Christie movie as a cover for a psychic magazine. In the novel, we have a space station populated by a group of Rugged Individualist scientists who find themselves taken over by agents from that Bastion of Evil Conformity, the United Nations.Eventually, the rugged individualists outsmart the agents, take the station back over, and declare themselves free."
