Additively Manufactured Smart Materials and Structures: Design, Processing, and Applications provides a critical overview of the fabrication, design, processing, characterization, structure-property relationships, and applications of 3D printed smart materials. The book practically outlines design strategies and manufacturing techniques across a variety of disciplines, including membrane technology, catalysis, batteries, supercapacitors, sensing, biosensing, aerospace, automobile, construction, and biomedical. Users will find a critical evaluation of the scientific literature that has already been published to highlight the significance, the technoeconomic aspects, the major difficulties, and the benefits and drawbacks of additively built smart materials.
Advanced 3D printing techniques, including stereolithography (SLA), fused deposition modeling (FDM), selective laser sintering (SLS), electron beam melting (EBM), direct ink writing (DIW), and 3D plotting are discussed in detail. The book also offers a thorough analysis of the microstructure, mechanical, thermal, and surface properties of smart materials and structures produced using additive manufacturing.

Dr. Rajkumar Velu is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu. He held positions as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Digital Manufacturing and Design Centre (DManD), Singapore University of Technology and Design, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Laser Aided Intelligent Manufacturing (CLAIM), University of Michigan. Dr Velu is also the recipient of the prestigious GATE scholarship. Dr. Velu's research focuses on engineering design, optimization, and the creation of innovative manufacturing techniques (additive manufacturing) and materials for designing and fabricating for biomedical and aerospace applications.
Siva Tamilvanan was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Advanced Research School for Technology and Product Simulation (ARSTPS), Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Chennai, India. He completed his PhD on Self-Healing Coatings in 2016 from Bharathidasan University. His fields of specialization were corrosion control by intelligent coatings, conducting polymer-based coatings, corrosion inhibitors, and corrosion monitoring. He published more than 30 articles and 5 book chapters and was granted two patents. He was an Assessor & Trainer of Paint and Coatings Skill Council of India. He has received various awards on national and international levels, including SERB, CSIR Fellowships, NACE, and Berger awards.
