EXCERPT: Preface to the Second Edition - This edition differs from the first in several respects. First, we have corrected the errors and misprints that occur in the first edition and have simplified the proofs at a number of points. We have added a number of worked numerical examples in those places where the students appear to need further clarification by way of explicit calculation. The last lecture of the first edition has been replaced by a new lecture on least squares and weighted least squares solutions of inhomogeneous linear systems. Classroom experience over the past few years has shown that this material is more useful to students in science and engineering than the short introduction to control theory given in the last lecture of the first edition. Finally, we have added a significant number of additional numerical problems at the end of the book. We deem that sufficient problems are now included to cover, without repetition, the assignments for two consecutive years of two semesters each . . . Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
