Telework (decentralized information and communication technology-based office work) is a controversial subject. Some see in it the future of work organization and predict its sweeping advancement, while others are sceptical about its long-term prospects and feel that, due to the considerable organizational effort involved, telework applications will remain limited in scope.
This book brings together current international knowledge on the issue of telework. Leading researchers in the field report on their latest work, and practitioners responsible for setting up major teleworking schemes discuss their practical experience. Based on papers presented at the international conference held in Bonn, FRG (March 1987), the book has four aims: 1. To provide an overview of the present situation of telework in the EEC and the USA. 2. To examine the technical, economical, organizational, legal, social and psychological aspects of the various forms of telework. 3. To discuss the likely applicational areas and different organizational forms of telework. 4. To identify, analyze and discuss strategies and instruments for the stimulation of desirable forms of telework.
The conference was sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities and the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology.
