Hardbound. The structure and content of the chapters in this volume follow those in the Second Edition of Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds, although this was completed 25 years ago! Since then, organic chemistry has moved apace and to account for this progress the relative space allocated to each chapter varies widely.
Whenever possible, it has been the editor's policy to allow individual contributors to determine the depth of coverage necessary to reflect the importance of modern trends within each chapter. Only in the case of chapter 23 was supplementation unnecessary. The main advances in the subject matter in this chapter are fully disclosed elsewhere in Volume III.

1996 This new Volume of "Rodd" continues to be a major service to organic chemistry... The chapters are uniformly well written...they should be standard component of any good organic chemical library. -- Philip D. Magnus, Journal of the Americal Chemical Society
