Synopsis
Hardbound. The volume begins with reviews of the diterpenoid and steroidal alkaloids, by Dr. Karl Hale, supplementing Chapters 34 and 35 of the 2nd Edition. The chemistry of morphine and its analogues has a very long history but, such is their importance, that new syntheses and reactions are still explored. Professor K.W. Bentley, author of the First Supplement in 1987, again reviews progress in this subject in Chapter 36.
Prominent biologically-active alkaloids belong to the indolizine and quinolizidine groups and the syntheses of these alkaloids still attract the attention of some of the leading organic chemists of our generation. The chemistry of the core heterocycles present in these alkaloids is reviewed by Mark Humphries and Parminder Ruprah in Chapter 37.
