In diesem Buch wird der Entity-Relationship Ansatz von R R Chen in der deutschen Übersetzung vorgestellt. Dabei wird nicht nur der logische Datenbankentwurf beschrieben sondern auch die Übertragungsregeln des E/R-Modells in die verschiedenen Datenbanksysteme, um das physische Datenbankmodell zu erhalten. Ergänzt werden die Ausführungen Chens von einer Erweiterung des E/R-Ansatzes zum logischen Programmentwurf von H.-D. Knöll.
