Cornelius Ryan joined the London staff of Reuter's News Agency in 1941. In 1943 he joined the staff of the London Daily Telegraph as a war correspondent. Ryan was at Normandy twice on D-Day, on a bomber flying over the beaches, and on a patrol boat that took him back after he landed in England. Upon the activation of Patton's 3rd Army in Normandy after D-Day, Ryan joined that force and covered its activities until the end of the war in Europe. His three classic World War 2 books-The Longest Day, A Bridge too Far and The Last Battle-brought the battles to life through the meticulously researched stories of thousands of men who fought on all sides in the last 11 months of World War 2 in Europe. Doug McCabe is Curator of the Cornelius Ryan Archive, which is based in Ohio University Libraries.
"Magnificent... a fantastic edition"-James Holland "The great strength of [The Longest Day] ...is the incorporation of the primary sources allowing readers to experience the letters, transcripts and maps from the time...with the recordings of many of the leading D-Day protagonists. We can all hear Eisenhower's experiences of D-Day from his own mouth. Nothing will connect new audiences with our past more than this personal testimony from beyond the grave."-Dan Snow "Carlton Books have produced a splendid new edition of a classic book...worth every penny for the excellent illustrated version, a very high quality production and all the extras included in it...If you buy one D-Day 70 commemorative book this year make it this one."-Sommecourt
