"When Last Wish was first published, the issue of physician-assisted suicide hardly existed. Now it has become one of the major issues of our time. . . .And however one feels about it, how-to-die is an issue that concerns us all. I know that from my mail. Some people I hear from are neither sick nor old. But they worry about a system of medicine and the kind of mindless technology that sometimes prolongs life, even if the person 'living' wants desperately to die. . . .My mother felt she was lucky to get out of life when she did. She wanted others to have that choice as well."
About the Author
Betty Rollin has been a television correspondent for NBC News and for ABC News' Nightline and has written articles for many national publications, including the New York Times. She is the author of two other autobiographical books: the bestselling First, You Cry and Am I Getting Paid for This? She lives with her husband, a mathematician, in New York City.
