Synopsis

In the bestselling tradition of Ten Things I Wish I'd Known....and The Right Words at the Right Time comes a collection of inspirational wisdom from beloved lacrosse coach, the late Diane Geppi-Aikens.

Loyola College of Maryland Women's Lacrosse Coach Diane Geppi-Aikens would have been a remarkable role model simply as one of the nation's top lacrosse coaches. But this single mother of four battled inoperable brain tumors for eight years. Partially paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, Geppi-Aikens missed only one game as she coached her #1 ranked team into the semi-finals of the NCAA championships. In spite of the terrible tragedy threatening her life, she managed to get her players to consider her lucky. Now, in the wake of this courageous woman's death comes an incredibly inspirational book. In 20 short chapters, Geppi-Aikens's unique and uplifting teachings live on through the memories of those she inspired most.

About the Author

Chip Silverman lives in Baltimore, Maryland.

From Publishers Weekly

The coach of Loyola’s women’s lacrosse team for 15 years, Diane Geppi-Aikens took her team to the NCAA finals last year, before dying of inoperable brain cancer at 40 last June. Countless articles and TV appearances made her story well known, and now Silverman has compiled the testimony of players, friends and family for this volume. All of them share memories of Geppi-Aikens and recall a treasured lesson that she taught them. The book’s 20 chapters are devoted to one lesson each: e.g. "No Stone Unturned—The Themes of the Seasons: Kourtney’s Story." Through these recollections, the portrait of a remarkable woman emerges, one who believed in "turning dreaded events into playful challenges" and whose "method of honesty...was laced with a semitough tenderness, full of love and hope." Sports enthusiasts may appreciate these anecdotes the most, but many readers are likely to be moved by their uplifting messages.
