Annie Harlowe is still reeling from the death of her husband, Andre, a year ago and desperately trying to make ends meet for herself and their two children, Milo and Trixie. Though she is having trouble paying her credit-card bills, she faithfully pays the bill for her husband's cell phone so that she can hear his recorded voice. One day someone actually picks up--through the static, she thinks it might be Andre, communicating with her from beyond. Annie can't fathom moving on until she meets handsome, rich Thom Brannock at a party she is helping to cater at his house. Sparks fly instantly between them, and when Thom stops by to return Annie's wedding ring, which slipped off at his house, he starts to break through her defenses.
