In Autumn Days, children play in the leaves, pick apples, choose pumpkins, and go for a hayride. Both parents accompany a one year old for A Checkup. In the pediatrician's office, the child is is weighed, undressed, checked over, and given a shot (with no reaction on her face). Nursery School depicts children of various ethnic backgrounds in typical activities, such as painting, eating, or listening to stories. On Winter Days, the children are pictured sledding, building snowmen, walking on the ice, and warming up inside. Children in the photographs range from ages two to five. In these days of play groups, day care centers, and nursery schools, it is reassuring to children to see their daytime activities reflected in books of this sort. The text is nothing special; it simply labels or makes a statement about each picture: "Get ready to bake a cake" and "The teacher reads a good story." But the photographs are bright, friendly, and interesting. These books will work well with lap-sitters or in small groups. Susan Hepler, Windsor Public Library, Conn.
