Becky, a young mouse, gets a new dolly and invites her friends for a doll party

Gr. 1. Becky receives a new doll and takes it along when she invites her friends to a party--despite Mama's admonishment to leave the dolly at home so she doesn't get it dirty. She bakes cookies at Nan's house, and the doll gets covered with flour; she gardens at Mary's house and leaves with dirt on the doll's dress. On the way home, Becky falls in the mud and so does Dolly. Mama saves the day with a washing for both of them, and the next day, cookies and flowers are featured at the party. Simple fare, featuring short, concise sentences, this should attract the girl audience to which it is directed. Sweet, colorful pictures round out the package. Ilene Cooper
