Word problems, such as how many eggs are needed to complete three orders of Danny's breakfast special with each serving needing three eggs, offer a practical application for math skills. K-Gr. 2. Twins Tina and Tony enjoy helping out at their uncle's diner when he is short-staffed. From setting tables (10 tables with 2 place mats each; 8 booths with 4 mats each) to preparing 6 orders (each order needs 3 eggs, 4 sausages, and 2 slices of toast), and doubling the ingredients for the pancake recipe, the twins use multiplication to get the work done. Part of the All Aboard Math Reader series, this makes math a natural part of the story.
