Synopsis
This book is set on Earth a billion years into the future; the oceans have dried up and desert covers almost the entire planet. The city is a self-contained environment in which no one leaves (or even wants to leave) and everything is provided to the citizens. Their every need is met by the Central Computer that guides everything in their lives. They want for nothing. Instead of dying after a very long life (millions of years?) they return to the memory banks of the computer, to be resurrected some time in the future: there's no childbirth.
