Gail Eastwood started writing her own “books” at age seven. Through a variety of careers including reporter, rare books dealer, and freelance journalist, she never gave up the dream of becoming a novelist. Her first book was published in 1994 and won the Golden Leaf Award. Six more acclaimed novels followed before Gail took a 12-year break for family matters. She is now back to writing new stories and issuing new editions of her backlist. She lives in her native state of Rhode Island with her husband and two adult sons, where she also teaches writing classes and workshops. She holds a degree in Humantities/Comparative Drama and Sociology from Case Western Reserve University. Spending time with her family, indulging in Renaissance and English Country dance, and pursuing her interests in historic costuming, reading, theater, and the beach infringe on her writing time. Her favorite travel destination is, no surprise, England.
Although she knows the sensible and expected thing to do would be to marry the quite eligible but increasingly irritating and proprietary Harlan Gatesby, free-spirited Merissa Pritchard resists. When the intriguing Captain Alexandre Valmont, an escaped French prisoner-of-war, unexpectedly complicates her life, she suddenly realizes what and who she has been waiting for. A hero and heroine who make you care, a number of well-done secondary characters (including an obnoxious rejected suitor and a younger sister who begs to have a story of her own), and a plot that is both simple and unique characterize this well-researched country Regency. Little-known historical details and a high degree of sexual tension add to the mix. Eastwood (The Persistent Earl, LJ 11/15/94) lives in Rhode Island.

Pbk. Condition: Fair > Good. 1st Pbk Edition. (Signet Regency Romances) Perhaps if bold and beautiful Merissa Pritchard had not grown so tired of country life, it would not have happened. Perhaps if her cocksure suitor; the blueblooded Harlan Gatesby, had not been so boring, it would not have happened. Whatever the reason, Merissa had given the fleeing French prisoner-of -war; Captain Alexandre Valmont, a hiding place on her family estate. Even more shocking, she had given him entry into her heart.
