Reviews

On a visit from Italy to visit her closest friend in London, widowed artist Georgina Beaumont meets Alexander Kenton, the Duke of Wayland, when he rescues her dog from drowning. They are immediately attracted to one another and their affection grows as they attend various balls, salons, and excursions together. These tepid events form what passes for plot in this Regency, whose anachronistic language and manners fails to create a solid sense of the period. The idea that pride is the only obstacle to their marriage is not convincingly developed. Not recommended. Amber Tatnall, York Cty. Technical Coll., Wells, ME
