1887. Balzac is considered to be the greatest name in the post-Revolutionary literature of France. His writings display a profound knowledge of the human heart, with an extraordinary range of knowledge. A classic example of the French realist novel, which contrasts the social progress of an impoverished but ambitious aristocrat with the tale of a father, whose obsessive love for his daughters leads to his personal and financial ruin. Balzac was the nineteenth - century French author of La Comdie Humaine, a series of almost 100 novels and plays. He was one of the founders of French literary realism and is known for the complexity of his characters: he has been called the French Dickens. A brilliant writer, he had trouble succeeding in school and in the business world. He is famous for the intense focus of his work habits - he would rise at midnight and work for fifteen hours straight, often working on several different works at a time.
