Entrepreneuring isn't a read, learn, and file book. Aspiring entrepreneurs (and veterans, too) will find their fingers wearing tracks through the pages throughout the early years of their venture's growth.
Steven C. Brandt has a 40-year track record of starting and running companies. He founded or co-founded six startups, one each in micro-computer software, bio-chemistry, teaching machines, athletic shoes, abalone farming and new media applications at destination resorts. In addition, he is today the emeritus Senior Lecturer in Management at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business where he taught for 21 years. His subjects were: New Enterprises, Business Strategy, and Small Business Management. Over 4,000 executives and MBAs took his courses. Brandt was described this way by the CEO of one NASDAQ-listed company: "He is succinct and practical. He displays a rare combination of real-world experience, academic discipline, and humor." Brandt also served for years as director of three public companies-a semiconductor company, a solar products company, and a bank. He has this to say about the ten commandments in his book: "I learned them the hard way! And they are standing the test of time in many places in the world." The book has been published in five languages.
Besides "Entrepreneuring: The Ten Commandments," he has written three other popular business books: "Focus your Business: Strategic Planning in Emerging Companies," "Entrepreneuring in Established Companies," and "Stay out of Court and In Business." Today Brandt lives near Stanford University where he continues his writing and makes multi-media presentations on geographical exploration in a series called: Quest for the Pacific. His next E-book will be about Lake Tahoe; a book on simplicity will follow that.
