From Library Journal

At 29, Catherine is about to take over her father's business as a fish dealer at New York City's Fulton Fish Market. While she's completely at home on the grimy docks, Catherine is lost when it comes to her fiance. Steve, a lawyer, is the first man in years to meet all the criteria on Catherine's incredibly long and detailed "list of husband requirements." Now she's having second thoughts and starting to conclude that being alone is better than marrying the wrong person. The rest of the cast include Catherine's friends and family members: the fish biz's chain-smoking secretary, Catherine's cold and distant mother, and a menagerie of wacky women friends who have found varying degrees of marital bliss themselves. While the fish market setting and New York City atmosphere are interesting, the story in this debut novel is somewhat dull and predictable. Catherine spends a lot of time drinking away her pain while trying to come to a decision about her impending wedding, which gets a bit old. And this first novel's ending can be spotted from miles away. Not a necessary purchase. Beth Gibbs, Davidson, NC
