"It was my destiny to indulge women's fantasies with color, to bring out their beauty with healthy natural cosmetics," claims Harkavi, the founder of the il-Makiage line of makeup and beauty products. Her comprehensive manual offers a step-by-step makeup lesson, detailing techniques, tools, products and shortcuts; makeovers of nine models, including blonde, brunette, redhead, Oriental and black women; and skin, hair and grooming tips. There are abundant color drawings and photographs, and Harkavi's tone is upbeat and reassuring: "Every woman is beautiful"; "You can wear any color." Unfortunately, some photos reveal a model's bloodshot eyes and black roots peeping out beneath strawberry-blond hair.! Nail care information is insufficient, as are warnings about potentially allergenic or carcinogenic products. Also, mystifying makeup colors, such as cognac lipstick or khaki eye shadow, apparently refer to il-Makiage products.
