FULL and COMPLETE EDITION! A story about people in the dark exotic world of Conrad's London. This is a grim, gritty, cynical tale set in the world of anarchists and secret agents - deliciously tangible sense of the seedy underworld at play around the start of the 20th century. Conrad personifies the mist, funk and squalor of London until the city itself nearly becomes a character itself. Mr Verloc, the secret agent, keeps a shop in London's Soho, with his wife, her infirm mother, and her disabled brother. When Verloc is pulled into an anarchist plot to blow up the Greenwich Observatory things go disastrously wrong, and what appears to be 'a simple tale' proves to involve politicians, policemen, foreign diplomats and London's fashionable society in the darkest and most surprising interrelations. One of Conrad's best - it pulls the reader into the depth of the characters like no other - one accurately 'feels' the pain and terror he creates. A truly magnificent read.

This classic novel delves into the grimy world of Mr Verloc, anarchist and spy. First published in 1907 and varyingly received as prescient, elliptical and indecent, it was inspired by the attempted Greenwich Observatory bombing of 1894. It represents one of the first thorough treatments of terrorism in the twentieth century.
Joseph Conrad (born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, 3 December 1857 - 3 August 1924) was a Polish-born British novelist, writing in English, while living in England. Many critics regard him as one of the greatest novelists in the English language,[1] despite his not having learned to speak English fluently until he was in his twenties (and then always with a strong Polish accent). He became a naturalized British subject in 1886. He wrote stories and novels, predominantly with a nautical setting, that depicted the heroism of faith before the imperatives of duty, social responsibility and honor.
