It covers the theory of light-sensitive bichromates and the evolution of pigment printing, and details materials, apparatus, and manipulations: sensitizing pigment paper, drying, preparing negatives, placing under a negative in a printing frame, exposing with an actinometer, and developing. It then describes mounting, transferring to permanent surfaces, and finishing the print. The manual further presents non-inverted and inverted pictures on various substrates—paper, enamel, glass, ivory, and other opaque or transparent surfaces—and explains enamel finishes, transfer papers, and the supply and licensing arrangements of the Autotype Company.
