The True System Of Religious Philosophy: In Letters To A Man Of The World Disposed To Believe - Softcover
Synopsis
The True System Of Religious Philosophy: In Letters To A Man Of The World Disposed To Believe by Jean Francois Etienne Le Boys Des Guays presents a Swedenborgian program of religious philosophy delivered as a sequence of letters to a modern skeptic. The author argues that God is Life, Love, and Wisdom; that God is Very Man; that creation proceeds by contiguity from the Divine Love, and that the natural universe is the outcome of spiritual causes. The soul is a substantial being with a spiritual body, and humans retain life after death; the spiritual world is real, structured into three heavens and three hells, with an intermediate world where spirits live in societies. The text emphasizes the influx of divine love and wisdom, the doctrine of correspondences between spiritual and natural realms, and the unity of the Word, explained through Swedenborg. It defends the New Jerusalem Church, treats redemption through Jesus Christ, and argues for a single God manifested in three modes: Creator, Redeemer, and Regenerator. The work is organized in two series of letters, and introduces the reader to the core tenets of the New Christian Theology.
