This early 19th century medical treatise offers a comprehensive classification and discussion of idiopathic and symptomatic fevers, following Dr. Cullen's Pyrexia categories, and divides the symptomatic forms into Phlegmasia, Hemorrhagiz, and Profluvia. The author presents detailed chapters examining local inflammations, their symptoms, causes, and treatments, as well as numerous case discussions on ophthalmia, cynanche (sore throat), phrenitis, and other febrile inflammations. He introduces a new theory that inflammation arises from capillary debility with compensatory action of larger vessels, challenging older doctrines. The text also includes an experimental appendix on urinary deposits and the effects of acidity and diaphoretics on lithic acid excretion. The volume reflects early 19th century debates about fever pathophysiology and medical treatment.
