The Insecurity Of Salvation In The Church Of Rome;A Sermon by William Lowfield Fancourt. This sermon, preached at St. Martin’s Church, Leicester, on May 18, 1830, by the Rev. W. L. Fancourt, Vicar of St. Mary's and All Saints', Leicester, addresses the perceived threat to Protestantism posed by the Church of Rome. It defends the Church of England's Reformation, argues that Papal authority, the Tridentine Decrees, and doctrines such as transubstantiation, Mariolatry, and the intercession of saints are erroneous and idolatrous, and contends that tradition should be subordinate to Scripture and the English Articles. The work surveys the history of the English church, the dangers of Rome’s influence, and the need for unity and charity among Protestants. It includes substantial appendices arguing historical points about Reformers and Rome, and urges Protestants to defend the Reformed faith while maintaining Christian charity.
