Synopsis
Cache-Cache, A Tale In Verse by William Davy Watson is a sprawling verse-narrative that traces the life of Watty from childhood in the English Lake District to adulthood. Through vivid memories of Arrandale, Ormathwaite, Wandale, Deepdene, and the surrounding fells, the poem layers family history, friendship, and first loves around his sister Kate, the girl known as Cache-Cache, and their guardian Aunt Rachel. The narrative follows Watty’s schooling at Ascham-house, in London, and at Cambridge, where friendships with Caleb Fenwick and a circle of scholars spark debates about liberty, science, and faith.
