Mémoires Du R.P. De Bengy, De La Cie De Jésus, Aumônier De La 8E Ambulance Pendant La Guerre 1870-71 by Anatole De Bengy. This memoir, published posthumously, recounts his experiences as a Jesuit priest and chaplain of the eighth mobile ambulance during the Franco-Prussian War. It follows his frontline ministry among wounded soldiers, his witnessing of battles, and his relentless devotion to comforting and aiding the injured, often under fire. The work also covers his Ardennes excursions, the campaigns around Rethel and Sedan, and his ultimate fate as one of the hostages executed during the Paris Commune. Included are diary-like excursions, a collection of letters sent by balloon from the siege of Paris, and reflections by soldiers and clergy that illuminate faith, courage, and charity in a time of upheaval and tragedy.
