Synopsis

The novel threads intimate domestic scenes with grand maritime scenes—the harbor, the shipyards, and the sea’s infinite distances—exploring themes of cultural collision, loyalty, love, and the cost of ambition. In the end, ships sail and lives are rearranged, leaving a haunting meditation on the limits of power, wealth, and the human heart.
