A hands-on, proven approach to mastering the art and science of leadership. Based on 10 years of development and research with thousands of managers at hundreds of seminars, the authors have devised the L4 System which consists of a highly refined method for working with individuals and groups that promotes teamwork, maximizes potential and totally utilizes resources.

Amidst the sound and fury of today's constantly changing and always uncertain business world, leadership and teamwork are essential for success. Since the release of the 1st edition over seven years ago, much has changed in the marketplace. For example, consider the transformation of the global economy, dot-coms come and go, merchandising companies transformed into "click and mortar" entities, financial services firms gobbling each other up, industrial giants consolidating at a dizzying rate, the heightened competition for technologically savvy professionals, and the arrival of Gen X as a demographic force. It's easy to see how the ability to attract, develop, and retain talent has become an even more formidable leadership task than it was when the world was simpler and more predictable.
Fortunately THE LEADER'S WINDOW explains that the key to taming this beast called 21st-Century Business is unlocking the formidable power of the L4 System, a set of strategies for assessing leadership style and developing the skills needed to become a more effective leader.
High-praise and endorsements have come from Stephen R. Covey, author of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People;" Ramani Ayer, Chairman and CEO, The Hartford Financial Services Group; Joshua Boger, Chairman and CEO, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc.,; J. Kevin Schmidt, Vice President, Human Resources, Saint-Gobain Abrasives-North America; Jack D. Orsburn, author of "Self-Directed Work Teams;" and many more.
The 1st edition of THE LEADER'S WINDOW was a natural outgrowth of our L4 System training and consulting with leaders from organizations of all sizes. Hearing their stories about their best and worst managers taught us unique conclusions about leadership that couldn't be found anywhere else. Participants in our training programs applauded, trainers wanted to be certified, and they all wanted to know how they could learn more about the Leader's Window--the endpoint of the system.
This 2nd edition also emerged from our work. Our firm, Charter Oak, has a close relationship with the Franklin Covey organization prompting questions about the linkages between THE LEADER'S WINDOW and THE 7 HABITS. The new Window connects to all 7. Most of our clients use the MBTI (r) instrument prompting questions about the relationship between types and styles. The new book explains how to use personality preferences when leading individuals and teams. We also updated the cases that bring the book to life--vignettes about political, business, sports, and entertainment leaders who illustrate our ideas and countless stories about real people who have put the Window into action.
We use the book to help training participants apply the system to their jobs. We also use it to help managers we coach learn about their leadership styles, the impact of their behavior on people, how to empower the individuals who work with them, or ways to make teams produce exceptional results. Many internal and external consultants also use the book for training or coaching.
