About the Author

CHARLES A. POYNTON is working to integrate video technology-particularly, high-definition television, digital compression, and accurate color reproduction-into computer workstations. He initiated Sun Microsystems' HDTV workstation project and introduced color management technology to Sun. He is well known internationally as a researcher, writer, and teacher. In 1994, he was awarded the prestigious David Sarnoff Gold Medal for his work in integrating video and computing technologies.
