Synopsis
"Applying Machine Vision" presents a step-by-step analysis to determine the needs for vision systems in manufacturing processes and the necessary characteristics and features a system must have to achieve desired use. It provides the reader with insight about the reality of utilizing vision systems against their promise. Sufficient background is given to enable the reader to make intelligent decisions about system requirements. The present state of vision technology is reviewed briefly. The book covers lighting, optics, cameras and sensors, and includes discussion of less expensive high contrast systems as well as computationally expensive machines with detailed vision capabilities and the trade-offs between them. The author also reviews 3-D vision techniques and provides methods to deploy machine vision systems throughout a factory so as to minimize the risk involved with the installation of a new technology. An appendix about alternative non-destructive systems is included.
