Hedges onHedge Funds

From the Inside Flap

Hedge funds are among today's fastest-growing investmentopportunities. With an estimated 7,500-plus hedge funds worldwide,ever-increasing numbers of investors are profiting from the provenhedge fund advantage. We say estimated because, along with beingone of the hottest investments around, hedge funds are also amongthe most secretive. Forbidden by law from engaging in any form ofpublic solicitation for new clients, hedge funds generally sellthrough private introductions and existing relationships, and oftenrefuse to reveal their market-beating techniques and strategieseven to their own investors.

This has led to their reputation as exclusive, elitist, andbeyond the reach of the average investor. But while many hedgefunds still require initial investments of one million dollars ormore, a new breed of security—funds of hedge funds—canprovide investors with a basket of hedge funds for increaseddiversification and lowered risk, all for as little as $25,000.

Hedges on Hedge Funds removes the veil of secrecy that surroundsthe long-hidden world of hedge funds. Written by James Hedges, arecognized pioneer in the hedge fund industry, this accessible andinformative book discusses:

  • Specifics of hedge fund investing—Including how to findand invest in them, a thorough overview of hedge fund investmentstrategies, and four vital elements for choosing the right fundmanager
  • The hedge fund advantage—Attributes that set hedge fundsapart from other investment vehicles and can help them providevaluable diversification to any standard investment portfolio
  • Types of hedge funds—From global macro to fixed incomearbitrage to special situations funds, explanations of thesimilarities, differences, and risks involved, for help whenchoosing from among today's many approaches

Successful long-term investing is all about spotting and seizingthe right opportunity at the right time. Hedge funds represent oneof today's most wide-open opportunities that—despite theirreputation as havens only for gamblers and the super-rich—areactually becoming affordable and sensible for most investors. LetHedges on Hedge Funds introduce you to this increasingly accessibleworld, and give you the knowledge and information you need todetermine whether hedge funds are right for you—and, if so,how to make them a component in your overall investmentstrategy.
