The title reads "for the Application Programmer" but should really be "for the New Application Programmer." Those new to creating applications will find this book a useful companion to platform-specific programming help. Instead of delivering purely technical programming information or design concepts and theories, authors Martin and Eastman find a middle ground to aid the less experienced reader.
The text begins with a thorough introduction to the concepts of application design before entering into topics related to user interfaces. Each chapter is a veritable checklist of things to remember when creating all portions of an application.
Other chapter topics include graphical user interfaces (GUIs) versus text, WIMP and controls, context switching, multimedia concerns, a guide to development tools, and list processing. This is a perfect introductory volume for new developers or for those who want to get started with application design.
