Presents various methods for diagnosing the physical conditions of streams. Improves communications between the interdisciplinary applications of stream hydrology, biology and engineering to solve a number of problems such as the rehabilitation of streams; classifying streams for environmental values; the design of operating procedures and fishways for dams; and the simulation of field hydraulic characteristics in laboratory flumes to study flow patterns around obstacles and organisms. Numerous examples are given so that the principles can be more readily applied. Computer software is available to allow readers to easily carry out computations without detailed knowledge of mathematics involved.
