This profusely illustrated survey features 75 photographs and drawings, 25 musical examples, and 16 fingering charts.

About the Author
Anthony Baines (1912–97) specialized in a branch of musicology known as organology. He produced a wide variety of works on the history of musical instruments and was a founding member of the Galpin Society, formed to further research into the history, construction, development, and use of musical instruments.
