Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jacket by Andrew Sklilleter (illustrator). 1st Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Ex library but with fairly discreet stamps and docket. Some edge wear to top and bottom of largely white jacket and spine, some browning to page block, corners slightly bruised, slight lean, not price clipped (£7.95), no personal inscriptions, internally clean and tight, overall a vg copy for its age and ex library. 465pp. Ben Coram, a 35 year old med school dropout tortured by Vietnam memories of fire and an abandoned native mistress, has found his niche as a noble, freelance ambulance driver (aided by old Greek chum Yannis) on momentarily peaceful 1974 Cyprus. But then Ben catches sight of earthy Kalya, Turkish wife of a Greek innkeeper, and he becomes a 'lunatic of love'. His wild lustful fantasies are, alas, in vain, until Greek/Turk hostilities break out again. Kalya's husband is gruesomely killed, her baby dies, and meanwhile Greek guerrilla Falkos asks Ben (a U.S. neutral) to drive up north into Turkish held territory to treat ailing, isolated Father Demetrios (whom Ben reveres). The hitch? Falkos himself will sneak along in the back of the ambulance, so he can find and kill his old nemesis, Turkish guerrilla Cabrir. A tale of sex, heroics, vulgarity and heavy eroticism. I was interested to find out that this book is still on 'restricted access' in many libraries. Nathan Richard Nusbaum (1913-2000), known as N. Richard Nash, was an American writer and dramatist best known for writing Broadway shows, including 'The Rainmaker'. Quite a scarce book. Seller Inventory # 011575
