"The Iveys return us to the essentials of interviewing, counseling and psychotherapy. Furthermore, they do this by emphasizing the most important part of effective helping, listening and the ability to enter the world of the client; and by gently adding to this other essential skills such as confrontation, interpretation, and directives."
"This text is especially relevant for social workers as it incorporates strengths and wellness perspectives, and looks at the individual within a broader multicultural and person in relation to their environment context."
"I am especially impressed with the fact that the book has a multicultural thread/focus throughout the book. The book more than adequately cover the skills/techniques and knowledge needed in the counseling field. The case examples are excellent and make difficult concepts easier to grasp and understand. I would highly recommend this book as an undergraduate text for counseling and social work courses."
