Synopsis
A chance for window-shopping – and a peek into backrooms and workshops – on a 1930s high street, this work is the classic collaboration of the architectural writer James Richards (1907–92) and artist Eric Ravilious (1903–42). It describes 24 establishments ranging from a family butcher to the ‘Submarine Engineer†selling diving suits, and includes a pub, an undertaker and a traditional London grill room. Facsimile of the first, limited edition published by the Curzon Press, 1938.
