The Inglenook began as a magazine that stood for "material and spiritual progress." Issued weekly by the Brethren Publishing House, Elgin, Illinois, the magazine cost "one dollar per annum, in advance." At one time, however, a single dollar would bring the subscriber not only the magazine but a bonus gift as well, the companion Inglenook Cook Book, advertised as worth a whole dollar by itself. Now several score years later, The Ingelnook Magazine is all but forgotten, but not its side product, the Ingelnook Cook Book of 1901 and 1911 sold more than 100,000 copies and is still much in demand.
