Synopsis
Vier Amerikanen, allen veteranen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en van Korea, treffen elkaar iedere week in een sjieke privéclub naar aloud Engels model in New York. Zij zijn inmiddels allen gevestigde burgers geworden met een serieus beroep en stilaan maakt de verveling zich van hen meester. Vroeger, in de oorlog, toen was er nog iets te beleven. Vanuit deze steeds weer opgehaalde herinneringen denken ze een verschrikkelijk spelletje ze verdelen de stad in zones en om beurten krijgt ieder met de dobbelstenen zijn jachtgebied toegewezen. Binnen die zone moet iemand worden vermoord en hoe hoger de risicograad, des te knapper de prestatie. Het duurt verschrikkelijk lang eer de politie er achter komt en tot uiteindelijke arrestatie kan overgaan. Origineel, uitermate boeidend, razend knap geschreven thriller, waarin zowel de invalshoek van de moordenaars als die van politiespecialisten indringend wordt beschreven. Of anders het betere werk.
