Gr 5-9--As with other titles in this series, The Gambia offers young researchers the basic information they need for reports. With a workmanlike and well-balanced text, and with beautiful and nicely illustrative photographs, the history, geography, and current conditions of the country are presented. The material is logically organized and a ``Mini-Facts'' section essentially summarizes the previously presented material. This is followed by a chronology of events and a comprehensive index. Although a large political map of the African continent opens the book, followed by a closeup of the western bulge, it is unfortunate that, in both cases, the name of the country is cut off or obscured. A closeup map is appended. The flag can only be found on the back cover. Nevertheless, these are relatively minor complaints, since there are so few resources that focus on this tiny African nation. Collections that have a need for materials on this part of the world will appreciate this serviceable volume.
