Ideas for how to get involved are presented along with what to expect and ways to document one's experiences for service-learning programs. The concept of volunteering is presented as a learning experience, thus the name of this series. Neighborhood gives ideas for joining established neighborhood groups and ideas for starting one's own group. Evaluating the project is explained clearly and concisely. In Animals, the tone is much lighter with cutesy chapter titles such as "Who, What, Where, Woof" and "Paws and Reflect." "Gimme shelter" is one of the subheadings. Overall, however, the book is a good introduction to this field. Both public and school libraries should consider purchasing these attractive and readable titles; they offer introductions to and advice on these increasingly popular programs.
