Grade 3-6 - These books cover life in the title colony from the time of European settlement to the aftermath of the Revolutionary War. Following a chronological structure, each one discusses the major events, personages, and development in the colony and does a remarkable job of balancing major happenings with details about the daily lives of the residents. Information about the Native tribes in each area and the way their lives were irrevocably changed by the coming of the European settlers is also included. Full-color and black-and-white archival reproductions, maps, and newspaper clippings from the time add authenticity and interest, and highlight boxes offer anecdotes, curiosities, and explanations of regional idioms. Back matter includes a recipe, a craft activity or game, and a highly visual time line.
