PreSchool-Grade 2-Satisfactory additions to the series, these titles retain the small size that's so easy for beginning readers to manipulate, the limited rhyming vocabulary arranged in short simple sentences, and word lists on the final page. Cowboy Up! denotes a cowboy's day at the rodeo and has illustrations on every page, some of which are cleverly enclosed in lariats. Chairs has simple cartoon illustrations and introduces some basic concepts about the shape and sizes of chairs and where they might be found. In Messy Bessey's Holidays, the child bakes cookies for her friends for Chanukah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. A recipe for decorated sugar cookies appears just before the word list at the end. This title is more complicated with twice as many vocabulary words and longer, more varied sentence length, and the rhymes are sometimes uneven.
