Gr. 2-5. These titles in the new True Books--Natural Resources series define what natural resources are, where they're found, and how they're used. Oil describes how the crude substance is formed, located, drilled, processed, and made into products for human consumption. A final chapter looks at the environmental effects of using fossil fuels, including a too-brief mention of oil spills, and a map shows where crude oil fields are located around the world. Water examines the elements and forms of water and explains the water cycle from evaporation to precipitation. Interesting facts on how much water is required for simple tasks such as brushing teeth and flushing toilets rounds out the title. As with other True Books, these are simply written, informative, and well organized for basic report research. Sharp color photos illustrate the text, and each book concludes with a list of suggested books and Web sites and a glossary of terms highlighted in the text. Gillian Engberg
