Reviews

A brief but meaty account of the life of the famous frontiersman. Told in five short chapters, the book is an appealing, easy-to-read biography illustrated with photographs, oil-painting reproductions, and drawings. Pictures of colonial skills such as weaving, candle-, basket-, and soap-making flesh out the historical aspect of the book; the most exciting picture is that of Daniel's daughter and two other girls captured by the Indians. More appealing for report writing and biography study than an encyclopedia, this book will not overwhelm or discourage students. --Eowana Bradley Jordan, Westgate Elementary School, Manassas, VA
